Hybrid Power Solution for Whitman Park MELconnex Alliance Project
The Challenge
Laing O’Rourke construction company required a solution to power temporary site offices without the drawback of diesel generators.
One of the UK’s largest construction companies, Laing O’Rourke, was in need of continuous, reliable power for the MELconnex Alliance project at Whitman Park. Power was needed to run their temporary site offices without the risk of overexpenditure caused by overloading, logistics and maintenance costs.

The Solution
A 50kVa hybrid battery and solar solution combined with a small backup generator.
Blue Diamond Machinery completed a power audit and analysis of the site’s power requirements and delivered a 100% redeployable solution. The installation included a 50kVa hybrid battery and solar solution with 5B Maverick solar panels, a mobile ‘plug and play’ battery and a small backup generator. This ensured continuous power for base loads, easier onsite transportation, installation and usability. It also reduced onsite particulates, CO2 and noise pollution.
The Outcome
An innovative, environmentally friendly and robust power solution for continuous operation of site works.
Laing O’Rourke was left with a cost effective solution to improve overall health of workers and reduced carbon emissions while maintaining reliable, certain power to uphold operations.
