Prime & Standby Power for Fortescue Railway Project in Pilbara
The Challenge
Required robust power supply for mining operations in the Pilbara.
FMG & John Holland required a reliable, cost-effective and efficient prime power source to power a Schlatter GAAS80.0.1 Flashbut welder to support the large-scale Fortescue railway project. The project is located on a remote and often volatile environment in the Pilbara.

Prime Power Generators
The Solution
The installation of custom built, heavy duty Perkins Generators.
To solve this challenge, Blue Diamond Machinery provided 3 custom built 650kVA Perkins powered generator units. To maximise fuel efficiency, Blue Diamond Machinery opted to synchronise the generators: running 2 units of prime power and 1 unit standby power for emergencies. Each generator was also fitted with oversized engines and PMG to provide stable Hz - maintaining less than a 4% frequency drop during the preheating pulse of 1,580Amps over just 2 generators.
The Outcome
Supply & installation of three perkins powered generators suitable for Pilbara's conditions.
The installation of the generators running in sync ensured the site had the convenience of unlimited power without the heavy burden of dealing with a costly fuel economy.
